Basketball is a Calling

When you think of basketball, you usually think of shooting hoops and dribbling a ball, but it is much more than that. Basketball is about developing concentration and discipline, building muscle, working with others and taking action towards achieving your goals. Memorial High School basketball coach, Coach Gibson, came in and talked about how coaching was a calling for him, as well as his experiences.

Coach Gibson indicates how finding a career is all about doing what you love and loving what you do. Loving basketball shows you have a passion for improvement, as well as always asking yourself what you can do better.

Coach Gibson stated, “This isn’t like a job to me… doing something I really love, like this is a calling for me. This is not a job, this is not a position, this is a calling.”

A coach is not only a role model but also a mentor and teacher. A basketball coach will mold and develop his team as people, as well as athletes.

“‘Play the right way’ means play unselfishly, respect each other’s achievements, play hard, fulfill your role,” head NBA coach, Gregg Popovich declared to his players.

Showing energy and determination during both games and practices demonstrates your intensity, continuously seeking for power or rage of improvement, which can often lead to success without even realizing it.

Coach Gibson announced happily, “ We just found out that we were ranked 21st in the state and we haven’t even played a game yet.”
