Q&A With Brenda Gilbreath

Q%26A+With+Brenda+Gilbreath

I will be interviewing a woman, named Brenda Gilbreth, who indeed had the deadly Covid- 19 virus back in May, she indeed answered these questions when she had the coronavirus, in which I will be asking her about her experience, symptoms, and more.

What was the cause of you getting the virus?

They think we got it on a plane. My husband arrived home from Vail on 2/29. We both got sick on 3/9 and 3/10.

What were the symptoms that led you to get tested for the coronavirus?

We both had flu symptoms ( fever, cough aching) for five days.  On day 8 I got GI symptoms, took medicine but got worse, and went to the ER.

When you were getting tested for corona, what was your experience like?

Well… I was dropped off at the ER. You go into a tent outside. I had a 101 degrees temperature and after 5.5 hours I was admitted. For the first three hours, the people just came in with masks and PPE. The doctor came in and said he thought I had a stomach virus and could go home. But they were going to put me on IV. A few hours later I have three doctors and three nurses in space suits come in(lol). At that point, they tell me they are getting more people with the same symptoms and they test me. The test is awful! A long tube that goes all the way through your sinuses to the back throat. They said it would take 24-48 hours. On day 2 they came in to do it again. They said they have a place that can do it in 5 hours. Meanwhile, every 5 hours I was begging for more nausea meds. It would not stop. Day three in the morning I woke up feeling better. Here come the doctors all suited up and tell me BOTH tests came back positive. I told them I felt better and asked if I could leave. They made me do another chest X-ray and breathe into a machine. That all went well and I had no fever. They released me!!

What’s one thing that has happened that you never could have imagined with this virus?

That so many have died. Very sad!

Does anyone else in your family have the coronavirus, if so who?

My husband.

Were you given any medicine to help take away the pain of the virus?

We were given IV fluids., pain meds for the stomach, and nausea meds.

Due to you being diagnosed with the coronavirus and not being able to attend work, have they let you go due to the pandemic and how has this affected your daily life?

I am still working. I already was a home agent. Missed 3 weeks of work!

What is your day to day like in the worst times with Covid 19?

Phases are bad, worse than better. I’m 61 years old and never have been this sick!  The worst was being dropped off at the ER and having to say goodbye to hubby of 38 years. Scary!

Since you have the coronavirus, do you have to wear anything, in particular, to leave your house just so you can get groceries or potentially go to a doctor, if so what do you have to wear or do?

My husband has been out twice to pick up RX and groceries.  They gave me an extra mask and got him on the phone and said it was mandatory that he wear it for 14 days.   We will be continuing wearing masks indefinitely.    He was never able to be tested because his symptoms were gone.  He is a PRESUMED COVID-19 case.

What do you want people to know about having Covid 19?

It’s a beast! Take it seriously!

Is there anything you want to add that I haven’t already asked?

There was a total of 13 days of fever. Two phases: First we both had a cough, fever, and aching. The second phase for me started on day 8 which sent me to the ER.

Anyways, this woman indeed experienced the deadly coronavirus back in May and is now cured, but be careful out there, because this can indeed be contagious to anybody!
