It’s Official: Joe Biden Will be the 46th President of the United States of America

It’s about time too! After a race defined by its vitriol and nastiness, the even nastier (if possible) election was finally concluded with a decisive victory for President-Elect Joseph Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris. Biden garnered the 270 electoral votes required (plus some), which puts him on the fast track to a presidency despite the contested nature of the victory by the GOP and Donald Trump.

November 3, 2020 brought forth a series of question marks, mostly about where the (at the time) Trump-leaning states of Pennsylvania, Georgia, Wisconsin and Michigan were headed. However even after Trump’s victories in electoral powerhouses such as Florida and Texas were accounted for, the following few days saw a diminishing Trump lead on key battleground states that would allow for an eventual Biden victory.

A large reason for Biden’s success is owed to the reconstruction of the blue wall, a variety of reliably Democratic states, which meant flipping those territories that had gone for Trump in the 2016 election. The blue wall, which for this campaign’s purposes meant turning Wisconsin and Michigan into calls for Biden, saw a tight race, with Wisconsin being a matter of about a 20,000 vote difference. In the end though, Biden succeeded in not only earning the votes of Wisconsin and Michigan, but also getting Arizona’s, which has been historically red. However it was arguably Pennsylvania that was the most critical for a concise win; the state first seemed to sway Trump until early Friday morning where it switched, clearing the way for a Biden presidency.

Although Trump has cried fraud on his Twitter, he has had little to no success in any of the lawsuits he has brought on since the election. While he is free to defame the findings all day long, without any actual proof of fraud or election interference it’s unlikely that any court proceedings will change Trump’s standing as a one-term president. In the meantime, we can get used to saying President Biden and Madam Vice President Kamala Harris.
