Sojourner Truth was an outspoken African American abolitionist and advocate for women’s rights during the Nineteenth century.

She was born as a slave, but eventually escaped into freedom with her daughter in 1826. She was the first black woman to successfully sue a white man. Her hard work as an activist and a Civil War earned her an invitation to the White House from President Lincoln.
