4 killed in smuggling attempt

An overly crowded boat was overturned due to weather conditions on the San Diego coast, killing 4 and wounding 25. Police suspect it’s attempted smuggling gone wrong. 

“Every indication from our perspective was this was a smuggling vessel,” said Jeff Stephenson, a spokesperson for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

On May 2nd at 9:56 a.m, 4 people were killed; 2 drowned others were swept away by currents but most of them are expected to be okay. 

“Three of the patients are expected to be discharged, the remaining patients are in stable condition”, said a statement from Sharp Grossmont Hospital.

The suspected smugglers were taken into custody and are yet to be charged.

“Two of the people on the boat, the suspected smugglers, will face charges.” said in a statement released by Customs and Border Protection.
