President of Real Madrid Seeks Changes To European Soccer League

The recent crisis in football over the proposals for a European Super League has changed football history forever.

“Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don’t like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.” So said football player, Bill Shankly.

74-year-old Florentino Perez, President of the Real Madrid Baloncesto, is reported to have come up with the idea of forming a Super League, of which he was named Chairman. The European Super League is essentially an alternative league in which 12 of the best teams in Europe such as Real Madrid step back from their original leagues to compete in one super league. As soon as this information was announced, the backlash against the idea was given by football fans worldwide and became a trending topic. The majority said that the idea of a Super League would ruin football forever. Protests in Europe started to stop the Super League from happening.

“I haven’t done anything in 20 years against football. I have enough credibility and history with Real Madrid for people to think I am working on this because things have changed and football has to change too”, stated Florentino Perez on Spanish Television.

UEFA, the administrative body for football in Europe, had to get involved and try to stop this league from happening. UEFA was considering banning some teams and players from playing in their respective clubs after the controversy.

A few teams have come out to apologize to their fans for joining the super league. For now, the super league  is said to be “on hold”. The outcome is unsure at the moment and nobody knows if the super league will actually happen one day, most of the fans can only hope it doesn’t.
