Warriors Pushed out of Playoffs

The Memorial Football Warriors have been pushed out of the playoffs this past week, losing to Independence 16-36. Over the past three weeks, the Warriors have had heartbreaking losses against Emerson in our Homecoming game, a loss in Overtime to Lake Dallas, and with a blowout loss to Independence.

Coming off a shootout against Lake Dallas, the Warrior’s offense struggled early, with all their points coming from the fourth quarter. The Warriors have only managed to score four touchdowns in the past two weeks. Offensive miscues, as well as the defense allowing more than 70 points in the past two weeks to opposing teams, hold the team from success.

On the upside, the running back tandem of True Booker and Brandon Tullis have almost 1000 all purpose yards combined this season. Brandon Tullis is a crucial part of Memorial’s offense, accounting for eight of the team’s touchdowns. Being a star player on the rise, Tullis is constantly working towards growing on the football field.

“I’m trying to do what I can, as well as scoring touchdowns on the ground as well as score in the air and expanding my game to the best it can be,” states Tullis.

The quarterback position this season has had multiple QBs starting and taking reps in the game. We spoke to quarterback Damarion McPherson on his response to the critics as he threw two interceptions in the team’s homecoming game.

“You can’t really focus on what anyone else is saying, you just have to go in there, lock in, and play our game,” says McPherson, “You can’t really think about it. You just got to go in, film, see what you did wrong and fix it going in.”

Although playoffs are no longer in view, you can support the team this Thursday at 7:00, against the 0-8 Creekview Mustangs in Carrollton.
