Warrior Wrestling prepares for UIL
The Memorial Wrestling team prepares for their remaining UIL matches after a successful season.
The Warriors are achieving great things this season, the Warrior Women bringing their overall District Dual Record to 6-2 Thursday, January 12th at a Tri meet against Wakeland and Lone Star. The men’s team took to the mat and fought hard on January 14th for the Cougar Classic, leaving only two tournaments until districts.
“The wrestlers that have been working hard are starting to see the results of the work they’ve put in,” says wrestling Coach Youtt, “we have just a couple weeks to iron out the bad habits and train in the good ones before the district tournament.”
As UIL draws nearer, the Warriors are intensifying their training regimen. Teams are split into separate training sessions to hone in on the needs of the group. Instead of introducing new techniques, they focus on strengthening their current assets.
“At this point in the season, each wrestler is really refining the moves that they like, and we are correcting as many mistakes as we can,” says Coach Youtt.
The wrestling team has high expectations for themselves heading into the tournament. They hope to have state qualifiers for both boys and girls teams, and eventually, their first state placer. As JV wrestler Drew Walton sums up: “My personal goal is to do well at districts.”
The Warrior Wrestlers will compete in the UIL Regional Tournament February 10th and 11th at Frisco High School.
