Trump Downplays COVID…Then Tests Positive

(Note: This article is categorized as an Op-Ed. As such, all opinions are that of staff writer Kelsey Byrd’s, and do not reflect the ideas or thoughts of Memorial High School nor the MHS Journalism staff team as a whole.)   On Tuesday, presidential candidate Joe Biden and President Donald Trump squared off in a highly chaotic, nasty and deeply uncivil debate that can only be summarized as being reflective of the inharmonious times we live in. However amidst the seas of insults, name-cal...

Ground Work Begins On Frisco ISD’s 12th High School

Ground Work Begins On Frisco ISD’s 12th High School

September 30, 2020

As far as you may know, Frisco ISD has 11 high schools. Earlier this year, they developed a plan to create a 12th high school for the district, being built Northeast of Teel Pkwy and Dakotah Rd, which would be adjacent to the future PGA headquarters and golf courses. Anyways, in May, these plans were put on hold due to the widespread of the Covid-19 Virus. Now that the school year has begun, though, they have a clearer picture of student enrollment, building capacity and now have resumed ...

The Iconic R.B.G

The Iconic R.B.G

September 30, 2020

As if 2020 couldn’t get any worse. In the already catastrophically, abominably, irreversibly, almost-comically terrible year that this has been, another crushing blow was dealt upon humanity through the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. To say that this is one of the worst things to have occurred amidst a sea of grievous occurrences this year is both valid and testimony to the truly spectacular person R.B.G was and what the loss of her symbolizes.   Born in the eternally-moving city of Brookly...

Phad Thai takeout Review

Karalyn Brown

September 23, 2020

Phad Thai takeout Review   Last night my family ordered Best Thai from takeout apps. It's better to go in and do curbside pickup because they will serve the people there before they deliver it to you. When the food got here it was bad. We were originally super excited. The food came fast and right on time but the downside was the food was flavorless and the egg rolls were burnt. We had to use what we had in our kitchen to doctrine it to  provide flavor. What's even worse is that it was a waste of $60. We were practically forced to eat this food because we did not want to waste the money. I would not recommend this place for Grub hub and Door dash users or any other app that delivers takeout . The issue with...

U.S Government to Reduce Number of Troops in Iraq

September 18, 2020

For most people, 2020 has been nothing but a consistent harborer of bad news- rather raging wildfires, the ever-looming tension of a tumultuous political election in the US, and of course, a pandemic of such unprecidence and calibre it still feels unreal to most. However not every event  to have occurred this year tells of despair and strife. One such gem in an array of daunting stories is the long-awaited decision by the U.S government to reduce it’s amount of soldiers located in Iraq.  ...

The start of the Frisco ISD football season has been delayed, but each team still has 10 regular season games planned, with games beginning on Thursday, September 24th, at 7pm.  The Current University Interscholastic League COVID-19 Risk Mitigation Guidelines state that spectators are now allowed to attend the games, only if appropriate social distancing of 6 ft can be maintained. Touch Deprivation: The Unexpected Side Effect of COVID Safety Protocols

Lauren Adkins

September 4, 2020

A warm embrace. A handshake. A comforting pat on the back. All are forms of physical touch that were once an ordinary, taken for granted, piece of daily life. Now, physical touch has been temporarily shunned due to COVID-19 from society’s routine, resulting in a phenomenon called “touch deprivation.”   In 1990, 2 scientists visited understaffed orphanages located in Romania. Upon observation, it was discovered that the children in these orphanages were extremely sensory deprived. They were physically and emotionally underdeveloped, which scientists were able to trace back to a lack of physical touch. Without physical contact, these children were experiencing lower levels of cortisol and growth dev...

Despite the oddity of the circumstances, Carlos Muniz and Grace Leimann went on...

Also due to covid, students that are not a part of the athletics programs or drill team will not be allowed to attend these games. Saved by the Bell

Saved by the Bell

August 27, 2020

If the apprehension towards the new school year could be compared to COVID cases, they would both be skyrocketing through the roof. The current global pandemic situation has taken a toll on almost everything and school was not an exception. During the last two months of summer, school districts scrambled to figure out a plan for the next school year. Trying to accommodate both virtual and face2face schooling, administrators developed a new bell schedule to make the transition back into school...
