Celebrities. When we think of celebrities, we think about how astonishing it would be to meet them in real life, take pictures with them, and maybe even converse a little. Except, we don’t think about how they might feel doing these things. In our minds it doesn’t matter how long or how many people have been taking pictures with them, we just think about ourselves with the celebrity, but little do we know that one person turns into one more person and then another. It’s a never ending cycle. As much as celebrities are very accomplished and unique people, they too deserve the joy of a private life. A life without everything that happens being spilled out into the public.

Paparazzi have been known to be strenuous and frustrating at times. They are constantly around trying to get pictures without the celebrities knowledge, “I knew the paparazzi were going to be a reality in my life,” Jennifer Lawrence says. “But I didn’t know that I would feel anxiety every time I open my front door, or that being chased by 10 men you don’t know, or being surrounded, feels invasive and makes me feel scared and gets my adrenaline going every day.” We can try to put ourselves in their shoes and understand that being followed and filmed can really make you question your lifestyle and job. This quote helps us understand why, from their point of view, nothing is really kept a secret or private. The public ends up knowing everything, since pictures are unknowingly taken and released.

Everyone should be more respectful towards any and every celebrity. We may not realize that their families are also affected, in the way that their lives are continuously documented. It can be scary for the kids, with celebrity parents, who don’t understand what’s going on or why they’re always being photographed. When they’re at home, that’s their safe place, where nobody judges them or is obsessed.

To conclude, as much as we think that attention is amazing to have, there is always a line that can’t be crossed. To help with this problem, we should differentiate between the public and private lives of celebrities and respect their peace.
