School Wages On, Even in a Pandemic

No matter how heart-shattering, soul-crushing, happiness-depriving a situation may be, life goes on. That is just one of the many lessons the catastrophic COVID-19 pandemic has taught us this past year. Frisco ISD is no exception to this rule as the district learns how to move forward with the school year despite the unprecedented circumstances.

With coronavirus cases rampant across the country, Frisco has set up an efficient system to deal with the oncoming influx of students. “Students who are ill will be separated from their peers,” a bullet point from the official FISD website states, going on to add that students in contact with sick friends will be “…removed from the classroom and taken to an alternate location on campus (e.g. go on a walk outside, move to a different classroom, etc.) so the classroom can be disinfected.” All of this is to be strictly enforced by teachers and staff so as to ensure the health and safety of each campus’s students.

Teachers are also expected to take on a new set of COVID related duties on top of their already stacked plates. “Staff will be required to self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms prior to reporting to work each day,” the FISD website tells. Furthermore, teachers are also required to “…monitor students and refer to the nurse if symptoms are present.”

All of this can seem very daunting as we are forced to enter foreign territory in nearly every aspect of life. However it is important to remember that these strange new procedures are put in place to help make it so people can return to normal life as soon as possible. After all, like the author Joshua J. Marine once said, “Challenges are what make life interesting; overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.”
