Top 25 Matchup: Memorial vs Wakeland

In a heavyweight matchup between Wakeland and Memorial Tuesday night, the Wolverines came into the Warriors’ gym and defeated them 83-77.

With a lot of collegiate talent on the floor, the Wolverines pulled away despite a late comeback from the Warriors. Senior Cooper Sisco who had 30 points in the win took control in this game, he is a Virginia Military Institute commit.

After the tough loss on Tuesday night, the Warriors will need to regroup as they go on the road to play the Independence Knights. The Warriors are 9-5 in the district, they have a game and a half lead over Liberty for the final playoff spot. Wakeland will play Lonestar on the Rangers home court. They are in 1st place in the district hoping to win the district title back to back years.

Wakeland jumped out to a 10-2 lead and finished the first quarter leading 26-16. After a spark from Junior Avery Jackson and Junior Isaiah Foster the first half ended with Wakeland on top 41-31. The Wolverines dominated the 3rd quarter outscoring the Warriors 22-15 to extend their lead to 17. Memorial won the 4th quarter when they outscored Wakeland 31-25, with 33 seconds to go Wakeland was up by 7 and there was still hope for Memorial. Free throws by Cooper Sisco and Michael Nieman would eventually ice the game and Wakeland prevailed 83-77.
